Reminiscences of Limpsfield

Charlie Jarrett, from a Limpsfield family which goes back many generations, gave a talk to the Oxted & District History Society on ‘4 Forges & a Coffin Shop’ referring to the many businesses run by his and other families in Limpsfield and Oxted illustrated by many old photos showing local features of the past.

These included the Plumbers Arms (demolished 1967), the Bull, the Hoskins Arms, the windmill at Limpsfield Chart, the old Oxted ‘Kinema’, steam trains at Oxted Station and the branch railway line to Oxted Chalkpit, the Oxted Viaduct, the Manor House and Dunrobin Schools, old double-decker buses and various former shops and businesses.  Following the lecture, members and visitors enjoyed the Society’s Christmas Party.
